grandma's christmas games

before work, mike and i picked up st. nick's candy for allys... and us... and the pets... we spent approximately 40 dollars after we were done... yes, i know that is a crazy amount to spend on candy. but i was reminded of how my mother stocked our stockings year after year with toys and candy and other goodies. i loved that. i know windy and i were always the kids that were envied when it came to the nonchalant holidays like easter, st. nick's eve, valentine's day, etc. but she always knew how much we loved it. granted i banked like a mo-fo every year in december (i.e. st. nick's eve, my birthday (party with family and party with friends), x-mas eve at grandma l's, x-mas morning at home, x-mas afternoon at grandma f's...), but that's besides the point. i plan to spoil the crap out of my kids come holidays. i don't see much of a point doing it the rest of the year tho. anyway, i was at work doing dishes when i was reminded of the holidays at my grandma filipiak's. she always had crazy games for us to play. my favorite being the fishing game. she would have a sheet blocking the entrance to their office with my uncles and dad behind the blockade. she would have a fishing pole each of us would get a turn tossing over the sheet to "hook" a big one. never anything super good, but it was always fun to see what you could get, and get to listen to my uncles and dad argue about what to put on the end for which kid. the one i hated the most was the singing one... since i'm so super shy and all. my sister and my cousins amy and renee seemed to love the singing one, while lisa and i would wait to be last. :) windy and amy would team up and sing one so everyone could hear them to receive their prize. lisa and i would have to be pushed into it and shakily sing through one of the easier christmas songs to barely receive our prize... she also had an easter basket hunt. now seeing as they lived in a huge farm house, this was no easy task. and when she would give the task of hiding the baskets to one of my uncles or my father, it was even worse off. some of us would get so mad trying to find that stuff. lol.

stuff like this really makes me want to be a grandma. not that i'm not having fun being a mom first :) can't wait to be the toothfairy :)
